Who can play in the tournament and what is the level of competition?
Love To ComPete is open to all players aged 8 and up. We hold divisions in U10, U12, U14, High School, and Open. There are separate divisions for Male and Female within each age group. The tournament is for premier, club, town, and recreational players. What is the cost of the tournament and what is included in the cost?
The cost of the tournament is $100 per team ($85 per team for Early Registration - see Registration page for details). There is also a $15 discount for any club/town that registers 4 or more teams in Love To ComPete. Every participant receives a free tournament t-shirt and one free ticket to a raffle of their choosing, as well as a full day of exciting soccer action! How do I determine which age group my team is in?
Love To ComPete uses the age groups for the upcoming soccer year. We offer age groups for U10, U12, U14, High School, and Open. Each team should register for the age group in which the OLDEST player on their team falls (e.g. if 3 players are U12 and 1 player is U14, that team should register for U14). To see the exact age breakdowns, please visit the Registration page. How many players can I have on the roster?
Each team can have up to 5 players. A minimum of 3 players is required to enter a team. Based on observations from the first two years, it is recommended that each team have at least 1 sub. How many games is my team guaranteed and when do I play my games?
Each team is guaranteed at least 3 games. Each age group will play all of its games in ONE day only. The typical format has been 1-game on, 1-game off throughout the duration of the tournament (so for instance, your team could play at 12:00, rest at 12:30, play at 1:00, rest at 1:30, etc.). However, it is also possible to have 1-game on, 2-games off throughout the duration of the tournament (for instance, play at 12:00, rest at 12:30 and 1:00, play at 1:30, rest at 2:00 and 2:30, etc.). This one-day format has proven to be a huge advantage of our tournament. When are the playoffs?
The Playoffs are the same day as the Round Robin portion of the tournament. After the Round Robin finishes, the top 4 teams will advance to the Semi-Finals, with the 2 Semi-Final winners then advancing to the Championship. The same format used for Round Robin games will continue throughout the Playoffs (so if the 1-game on, 1-game off format was used for the Round Robin, it would also be used for the Playoffs -- for instance, play the last Round Robin match at 1:00, rest at 1:30, play the Semi-Finals at 2:00, rest at 2:30, and play the Championship at 3:00). Can I change my roster after my team is registered?
Yes, you can change your roster up until your first game. Any changes to your roster need to be reported to the Tournament Event Staff prior to your first game. Once your first game starts, you are unable to make any changes to your roster with one exception -- if your team only has 3 players on its roster and one player suffers an injury, you will be allowed to find a replacement for the injured player. How do you setup the divisions and groupings for the tournament?
We do our best to generate even groupings, but this can be difficult sometimes due to relative unfamiliarity with some teams. In situations where we don't know much about a team, we take our best guess at placing them in an appropriate grouping. In divisions where multiple teams from the same club/town have entered, we try to make sure that they are put in separate groups so they do not face each other in Round Robin play. Where are the fields?
All of the fields are located at one complex - Skillings Field in Winchester, Massachusetts. Once you arrive at the tournament site, you will not have to drive anywhere for the duration of the tournament, as all the fields are in one central location. When is the on-site registration, who needs to come to it, and what is required at it?
All teams must check-in at the registration tent at least 30 minutes prior to their first game. It is only necessary for ONE person to check-in their entire team (preferably the Team Contact). At this time, a Medical/Photo Release Form for each player must be turned in. There will be extra forms on site should they be needed. Player passcards are NOT required. Tournament t-shirts and player raffle tickets for the entire team will then be given out to the person checking in. Why do you insist on a Team Contact?A Team Contact is necessary because they will serve as the middle-man between the Tournament Staff and his/her team. Any information regarding the tournament (registration acceptance, Medical Release Forms, tournament rules, schedules, last-minute changes) will be sent via e-mail to the Team Contact, and it is his/her responsibility to pass that information along to his/her team. Are team uniforms required?
Full team uniforms with numbers are not required. However, all players must wear jerseys/shirts during play and each team must bring both a light and dark colored jersey/shirt. If both teams are wearing the same color, a coin flip in qualifying play will determine the team to change uniforms. In the playoffs, the higher seed will have the option. All players MUST wear shinguards. What do we receive if we win?Champions in each division will receive trophies. Finalists in each division will receive medals. Will there be food and beverages available on site?Yes, there will be a complete snack bar on site and all food/beverages will be available for purchase (with all proceeds going to the Peter French Memorial Foundation). Items include subs, fruit, snacks, and all sorts of beverages. Can I bring my own tent?Yes, everyone is allowed to bring their own tent. There is ample room at the field complex for teams to set up their own tents. As summer weather in New England can be very unpredictable, the tents are a great way to protect from the sun/rain alike. What about the weather and what is the refund policy? The Love To ComPete Staff reserves the right to modify, reschedule, or cancel the tournament due to inclement weather. The Tournament Director has the right to move or reschedule games, as well as the right to shorten game lengths. All efforts will be made to proceed with the tournament as scheduled. |
